Why norton is not mexican

An educative card by a Mexican
page 1

This is in no way to be used to harass those who believe he's Mexican. This is for those who actually harass those for not BELIEVING he's Mexican. If you are Mexican and you just like him Mexican, that's fine! I really do support you! If you aren't Mexican and you jump on other people for not believing it, YOU'RE THE PROBLEM.

S Skin

here we have the famous s skin that sparked this whole thing. it's a resemblance to the day of the dead culture in mexico

while its a good design and everything, we have to keep in mind that skins do NOT equal ethnicity

Shining Feather, Censer, Sanskrit are all skins of color for WHITE characters. Of course, you're free to headcanon these characters as being characters of color but I have NEVER seen anyone go out of their way to claim their race as canon as I see people do for Norton

'Troubadour has Mexican sunflowers on it!' ...
This skin is French. He is a French poet in this skin.
Those are just flowers.
This level of grasping at straws makes me lose my mind everyday. Next

lore

Reading back about his deductions, nothing have been said about his place of origins. In fact, his trivia states this. Some theorize him to be of Scottish-Irish descent due to his surname Campbell being of Scottish origin. His first name, Norton is an English surname that originated from the anglicization of Celtic (Irish and Scottish Gaelic) surnames.
Another theory is that his family originally came from Ireland but immigrated to Scotland due to the Great Famine. This could mean that his involvement in a mining accident is possibly a reference to the Blantyre mining disaster.
-
Of course, people have brought up the fact that Mexicans have changed their name to fit their work place to avoid discrimination and to that I raise you, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ADDED INTO SOMETHING IF TRUE. Something as life changing as that would at LEAST be mentioned in one of this deductions, trivia, ANYTHING if it was truly important as that.

Lovecraft

With absolutely no credit whatsoever to confirm this statement, many people have went to say that he is based on a character, Juan Romero, a character from a Lovecraftian novel. To summarize, it's about a Mexican called Juan Romero, venture together inside the mine, drawn against their will by a mysterious rhythmical throbbing in the ground.
-
This absolutely has no tie ins with Norton at all. The only thing they have in common is that they were miners. Juan's trauma and Norton's trauma are two separate things, as Juan saw something supernatural inside the chasms. If they really wanted to make a connection, they would have made Norton go something SIMILAR. Also, Identity V makes it quite clear when a character is based of something whether it being their backstory or name. (Soul Weaver, Photographer, Female Dancer, so many more.) And for a Lovecraft reference, they DEFINITELY would have tied it in more (Hastur is literally the most obvious reference)
-Also Lovecraft was notoriously racist so I don't trust him to write people of color so when people use this as a 'gotcha' moment, it leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. Why would you want Norton to be connected to a racist that badly to justify a headcanon.

Emotes???

Unless I literally know buttfuck about my culture, I have no idea how people saw this and thought 'yeah, that's Mexican'. Trivia says this is Cuban?

His provoke is supposedly dominant in Latin cultures which is suppose to mean 'come and get me'. I don't know how to tell you this, but it's a universal language. I've seen people with different nationalities do this. It really doesn't mean anything.

'he said a word in spanish in call of the abyss 4!!!'
...
I can say one word in Japanese, that don't make me Japanese. Also, that's in CALL OF THE ABYSS, a whole other Universe. He could be Mexican there, I guess, but if anything he seems more like he's from Spain.
In conclusion, these are the most popular headcanons and reason why people think he's Mexican. It feels very watered down and I don't like that this is 'representation' for me.
Now, who should be the Mexican King in Identity V?

KEVIN AYUSO, BABY.

im running out of elements but here's why kevin is the true mexican and don't say he's a stereotype, i will eat you.
He likes to drink Mezcal, Mexican alcoholic beverage. Mexican Cowboys were dominant at their times as they were called the vaqueros, he has an accessory which is a Mandolin (bandolón ) and in official art he plays guitarróns.
Mexico was free from Spanish colonization in 1821, his family could have had ties to Spain but he is not a colonizer.
Kevin is often shafted or even forgotten, and I like to think it's because people don't care about him or his story. People don't try to care about his ethnicity and will go to preach about Norton as representation but will completely push Kevin aside. If people cared about Kevin as they did Norton, I wouldn't be so pressed about it. Anyway, if you have made it this far, I ask you be civil no matter what. Thank you for your time.
If you're still unconvinced/don't care then I can't do anything about it, I just ask that you don't harrass people who see headcanons differently from you, but if anyone has any questions, my twitter is on the homepage.
Please don't harass me.
